committee

Manly Musical Society holds its Annual General Meeting around April each year to elect its committee. Below are the current committee members.

2011/12 committee members

Keith Muir Keith Muir
President
Keith's interest in musical theatre began at a very young age, where he set-up the microphone and played the tapes for Beacon Hill Primary School's assemblies. He developed this passion at Manly High School with their amazing musicals, where he worked on all facets of production and has continued to assist them with every musical since 1999. Keith was a founder of Manly Musical Society, and took on the role of President, and has Produced all the Society's shows to date. For a crust he manages a McDonald's Restaurant full time and aspires to purchasing his own, in his spare time he is a volunteer fire fighter and wishes he could return to his pastime of being a Soccer Referee.
Ben Mills Ben Mills
Vice President
Ben's interest in musicals started with Guys and Dolls at Manly Selective in 2003 working backstage, and he's been involved in every one since. From this interest he has developed a passion for live sound helping Manly Musical Society with their productions. He works full time at Manly Selective while also studying IT at UTS. In his spare time he is also a volunteer fire fighter.
Tim Corr Tim Corr
Treasurer
Tim started in his role as Treasurer during the creation of the Society. Since his first crew role in a high school production of Fiddler on the Roof, he has since enjoyed lurking in the shadows and pressing buttons. He has since helped design and operate for both Pirates and Dreamcoat for the Society. These days, he is clean shaven and the society's main photographer.
Alex Wheeler Alex Wheeler
Secretary
Although always interested, Alex didn't really become involved in musicals until 15, due to a history of forgetting to audition, and not remembering about performances at school. Since then, he hasn't missed an opportunity, and by the time he left he was trying to convince friends to repeat the HSC so he could keep performing. This inevitably lead him to become involved with the formative stages of the Society. Now Secretary, he struggles to push aside his forgetful past and keep the running smooth and organised, while balancing a music degree focussed on piano.
Elizabeth Hayman Elizabeth Hayman
Fundraising Officer
Elizabeth's first musical theatre experience was in primary school, when she was the robin in her school's production of The Secret Garden. However, since she learnt about the joys of orchestra in her second year of high school, she has mostly avoided the stage in favour of hiding in the pit. She has been Manly Musical Society's rehearsal pianist since their first show. She was also the rehearsal pianist for Manly Selective's production of Les Miserables in 2008; the show that started all this. She is also the accompanist for the Mosman Community Choir, and is currently studying a university degree in Pure Mathematics. In her spare time, she enjoys re-writing the main songs of musicals to be about Maths and/or cheese.
Tavis Cunningham Tavis Cunningham
Web Content Manager
Tavis first took the stage when he sang 'Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head' in Kindergarten in his school's production of the well known and illustrious show, Oh Noah!. Apparently he was enthralled by the sequins sewn to his raincoat, because he's been there ever since. Tavis has played lead roles in numerous musicals in primary and high school, as well as at university. He also plays the saxophone and has been fiddling around with a clarinet, but singing is his one true love. Tavis has high hopes for the Society and would like our productions to bring the same rush from performing that he experiences to our members.
Leon Huxtable Leon Huxtable
Ordinary Member
Leon is currently studying to be a Drama and English teacher at UNSW. Having been with the society since its first show, he stood for election to the committee as he has a lot to say, but before this had no one to tell it to. He likes meetings after having been school captain in primary school and high school. Leon has been in all the musicals to date, and is usually on the stage instead of behind the scenes but now enjoys both.
Atalya Masi Atalya Masi
Ordinary Member
Atalya's passion for performance was sparked when her preschool teacher gave her a solo in the end of year carols. Since then, she has fuelled her love of music through performing in musicals, orchestras and choirs and continuing her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium in Music Education. She was rewarded for her efforts as a vocalist and flautist with an Encore nomination in 2008. She continues to be rewarded whenever she learns something new (such as promotions at MMS) and when she creates lightbulb moments for her students.
Vanessa Moskal Vanessa Moskal
Ordinary Member
Vanessa is a co-founder of the society.

We currently perform at the Star of the Sea Theatre, a 307 seat two-level theatre open to the public in the grounds of Stella Maris College. It is located at the intersection of Collingwood Street and Iluka Avenue in Manly, Sydney.
