Manly Musical Society is proud to present Jonathan Larson’s bohemian rock opera masterpiece, RENT. Winner of four Tony Awards, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, and the Pulitzer Prize, RENT tells the story of one year in the life of a group of impoverished young Bohemian artists dealing with life, love, and AIDS in New York’s East Village.
Directed by Hannah Courtney our vibrant, edgy, and exciting production has taken inspiration from the glorious Puccini opera, La Boheme from which RENT was based on. Traditionally set in New York of the 1990’s, MMS has taken the show back to its artistic origins, instead framing the show in 1980’s New York, bringing with it touches of bohemian Paris.
Our innovative production will hark back to its artistic origins and reflect on the spirit of Larson’s RENT – a timeless story of art, love, and life. We hope you enjoy this new take on a modern classic.
